About Laurus College
The name of the school is derived from Latin for “success.” The school strives to live up to this name in all that it does, and it is committed to helping students succeed from the first day of enrollment to the search for post-graduation employment. All of the school's courses integrate curriculum that has been designed and updated to cover the latest technologies needed to flourish in the marketplace.
As an educational institution, Laurus College is fairly new. It first opened its doors in 2006 after its parent corporation, Michigan-based Qe2 Systems, took over Atlas Computer Centers. Qe2 currently has educational facilities across California, Michigan, and Oregon. It provides vocational training and education to existing businesses and corporations.
The school offers eight courses of study. These include 3D Animation, Business Applications, Computer Networking, Information Technology & Service Professional, Office Support, Professional Business Support, Web Design, and Medical Billing. All are offered as certificate programs.
Medical Billing
The Medical Billing program lasts for a total of 300 clock hours. The coursework runs through computer basics, extensive medical terminology, insurance processing, and electronic billing.
Students spend much of their time on the computer learning exactly how to run the software used in most medical offices today, making graduates prepared to begin immediate entry-level work in front offices, insurance claims companies, and billing centers.
Faculty
All faculty members and administrative personnel are hired with the goal of creating graduates who are better prepared for working in the real-world environment. Although classroom education is a part of this, the focus tends to include a level of involvement that goes beyond studying and reading to include hands-on learning and applications to the professional arena.
Facilities
The classrooms at Laurus College are primarily computer-focused. Because most of the school's programs are centered on software and computer design, it is committed to having the latest technology available for students to learn. These computer-based training modules are rounded off with instruction and hands-on exercises. The campus also offers student lounge areas and administrative offices in a single, convenient location.
Accreditation
Laurus College is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools. This grants them the authority to bestow certificates of completion on all of their qualified graduates. The school is also licensed to operate in the state of California by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education.
Financial Aid
Unlike many other vocational training institutions, Laurus College has its own loan programs for students needing assistance with funding. The Laurus Student Loan and Laurus President's Scholarship are two of these programs. The loans are dependent on student need and eligibility, and must be applied for through the school's financial aid office. The scholarships are offered annually. They offer $1,500 of tuition assistance to two students selected based on financial need, community involvement, and career goals. Additional private and federal funding is applicable, as needed.
