About Globe University/Minnesota School of Business
GU/MSB has been in operation in the Minnesota area for 130 years. It originated as a business college in 1885 as a way to train youth for employment at local companies. Today, the school has expanded that vision to include training in business, graphic design, paralegal studies, audio/visual technology, and computers, as well as their popular health care options.
The different campuses can be found in locations across the Midwest. They are members of the Globe Education Network, a group of colleges offering shared resources and credit exchanges for students within the network.
Other member groups include the Utah Career College, the Institute of Production and Recording, the Minnesota School of Cosmetology, and the Duluth Business University. From business training to the expanding health care options, the school strives to train students to be successful in entry- and mid-level employment.
GU/MSB offers a number of different health care options, including a Bachelor's degree in Health Care Management, an Associate degree and/or diploma in Massage Therapy, Medical Administrative Assisting, and Medical Assisting; and an Associate degree's in Medical Administration or Veterinary Technology.
Health Care Management (Bachelor of Science)
The Bachelor Degree in Health Care Management program offers training in human resources, computers, accounting and finance, hospital policies, health management, marketing, research, and communication. Together, these fields give graduates the ability to apply for work in hospitals, clinics, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations. It is a four-year course that includes general education classes.
Massage Therapy (Associate's Degree or Diploma)
The Massage Therapy program offers two options: an Associate degree or a diploma. The diploma course offers training in various types of massage, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and health care law and ethics.
It requires the completion of 48 college credits. The Associate program offers all these as well as additional general education classes and advanced techniques training; it takes two years to complete. Graduates of both programs may be eligible to sit for several national and state massage therapy certification exams.
Medical Administration (Associate's Degree)
Focusing on health insurance claims and billing, and computerized patient scheduling, the Medical Administration program at GU/MSB is an Associate's Degree curriculum. Coursework includes comprehensive training in administrative responsibilities, including medical terminology, record keeping and transcription. Graduates of this program will be well prepared to seek entry-level employment in this exciting field.
Medical Administrative Assisting (Associate's Degree or Diploma)
The Medical Administrative Assisting program also offers the Associate degree or diploma options. Training in the diploma program includes word processing, database and spreadsheet management, medical terminology, office procedures, medical transcription, health care law and ethics, and communication. It is 59 college credits in length. The Associate degree program is two years and includes additional record-keeping, insurance, and supervisory training courses.
Medical Assisting (Associate's Degree or Diploma)
The Medical Assisting program can be taken as an Associate degree or diploma program. Both programs prepare graduates to sit for the Certified Medical Assistant exam, and graduates of the Associate degree program may be eligible for the Certified Radiology Technology exam.
Classes for both programs include anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, patient care, hematology, general business, lab science, communication, and computers. The Associate degree program offers more science-based education related to radiology and microbiology.
Veterinary Technology (Associate's Degree)
The Veterinary Technology program is offered as an Associate degree program. This two-year program trains students to sit for the Certified Veterinary Technician exam. Classes include medical terminology, office procedures, laboratory techniques, animal anatomy and physiology, imaging, surgical assisting, anesthesiology, and specific animal work.
Faculty & Facilities
Class sizes are kept fairly small to allow for personal attention from instructors and more hands-on training. Instructors are chosen for their own professional experience and their connections to networking opportunities in the area.
To further this idea, each educational program has an advisory board composed of industry and business professionals. Their insight keeps the curriculum relevant and up-to-date with current standards. All classrooms and lab equipment are also updated to meet the demands of the latest technologies.
Accreditation
Globe University/Minnesota School of Business is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools, enabling them to award Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees, Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degrees, and various diplomas for their fields.
Many of the accredited programs are available online as well as on campus. The Veterinary Tech program is also accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association, and both Medical Assisting programs are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.
