About Florida Career College
Florida Career College is a subsidiary of Education Training Corporation, another Florida-based company. As an educational institution, the Florida Career Colleges were opened in 1982 under the name of Florida Programming and Educational Center, Inc.
They transformed their name to Florida Computer Business School in 1990 to reflect the change in focus to both computer-based industries and general business training. Since then, the school has continued to grow with the industry, incorporating health-related courses and programs, including those currently offered.
There are a number of diploma and degree programs offered through the Brandon health care options. Prospective students can choose between diplomas as a Massage Therapist, Medical Assistant Technician, Medical Coding & Billing Specialist, and Clinical Skin Care.
An Associate of Science degree is offered in both Advanced Massage Therapy and Medical Office Administration. A Bachelor of Science is available in Health Information Management.
Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management
Of the degree options offered at Florida Career College in Brandon, the BS in Health Information Management is the longest program. It lasts for a total of 45 months, offering students the chance to combine general education classes with business and health care management as well as the basics of medical assisting, office administration, and billing & coding.
Associate of Science Degree Programs
The AS programs (Professional Therapeutic Massage, Medical Assistant, Medical Billing and Coding, Medical Office Administrator) are between 21 and 24 months long. Both provide general education classes along with training for entry-level positions in their respective fields. As with the BS degree option, basic learning in medical assisting and office administration are included in the Medical Office Administrator program.
Diploma Programs
The diploma programs last for a total of 9 to 12 months, depending on the chosen field. Although less comprehensive that the degree programs, much of the basic education is similar, including instruction on basic office skills and clinical patient work. The school's newest addition – the Clinical Skin Care program – requires only 30 credits of training. Diploma programs also include Professional Therapeutic Massage, Medical Assistant, and Health Insurance Billing & Coding.
Faculty & Facilities
The school has seven campuses across Florida, including the home campus of Miami as well as Pembroke Pines, West Palm Beach, Lauderdale Lakes, Clearwater, and Brandon. The Brandon campus boasts a total of 28,000 square-feet of space. All classrooms are large and kept up-to-date. The school offers computer labs, medical labs, and a resource center, as well as various administrative offices in each location. Staff members are chosen for their experience in each field.
Accreditation
Florida Career College is recognized by the Florida Commission for Independent Education in all of its various campuses. The school is also accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools, which enables it to bestow diplomas and Associate of Science degrees.

Brandon was founded by John Brandon who located there in 1857 with his wife and six sons. The area was primarily a farming community with just a few hundred residents raising chickens and working in poultry packing house until World War II.
The 1950s and 60s began the real growth for Brandon and the community swelled from just 1,700 residents in 1961 to the current population of nearly 90,000. This growth was facilitated by the construction of roads leading to Tampa and opening the door to suburban sprawl. Today, Brandon has a population of nearly 90,000 and is growing rapidly increasing by almost 16% in a 5-year period.
Westfield Brandon is one of the largest shopping malls in central Florida. The mall originally opened in 1995 as the Brandon Town Center and with almost 1 million square feet of retail space the mall served a million shoppers in its first two weeks of operation. The mall continues to expand and provide attractive retail options to this upper middle class community.
Of course, one of the attractive aspects of residing in Brandon is the easy access to Tampa and all of the amenities offered by this rapidly expanding metro area. Tampa has a variety of cultural and entertainment options and a host of professional and college sports teams. There are many festivals and the Florida Sate fair is held here annually.
