About Allen School

The medical field has benefited from the Allen School’s highly trained graduates since 1961. The school’s mission is “to create an atmosphere that provides each student with the technical proficiency necessary to procure a rewarding career and to empower each student with a sense of pride and standard of excellence in his or her profession, to encourage the idea of continuing education for career advancement and to provide placement assistance to graduates.” Students are able to attend in person or through online courses.

Becoming a Medical Assistant is an excellent way to reach your own goals of having a career rather than just a job. When studying to be a Medical Assistant at the Allen School, students learn to use computers and are trained in everything from basic word processing to industry-specific software.

They also learn how to work in a professional office by perfecting telephone and scheduling skills and studying billing and records management.

In addition to the front office aspect of Medical Assisting, students at the Allen School also learn to perform a variety of routine medical procedures.

As graduates, they will be proficient at drawing blood, performing urinalysis, and administering an EKG, among others. Classes will include education on the basics of anatomy, an understanding of common illnesses, and how to measure a patient’s vital signs.

Faculty

The faculty at the Allen School is very involved with students and constantly encourages them to reach their potential. Students repeatedly remark on the instructors’ caring and compassion and credit the faculty with much of their success. By putting their own understanding and expertise as doctors and registered nurses to work in the classroom, they are able to give students the information needed to work in the medical field.

Facilities

Students attending the Allen School live off campus and travel to the Brooklyn location on Montague Street. This allows them to continue their off-campus life while still working toward a degree that will move them forward with a career. In addition to classroom learning, these students perform an off-campus internship in area medical clinics. The benefits of the hands-on aspect of this learning can not be overstated. While on campus, students have access to the school’s library and laboratories, as well.

Accreditation

The Allen School has been preparing medical professionals for nearly five decades. It does so with national accreditation by the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education. In addition, the school is licensed by the New York State Education Department.

Financial Aid

Financial aid is available to students of the Allen School. Awards are made based upon a number of criteria, including need. Approximately 93% of students receive a Federal grant, and about 80% have utilized student loans in pursuit of their education. The first step to determining if a potential student qualifies for aid is to fill out a FAFSA form.
