Brookstone College of Business opened its doors in 1939 as Ashmore Business College. In 1984, it combined forces with Asheboro Business College to create a unified educational experience in the North Carolina region.

Health Care Student - Charlotte, North CarolinaThe training offered through Brookstone College has always had an emphasis on vocational training, but this was reinforced when the two schools combined to create more graduates to meet the demands of the market. It now operates as a private, for-profit vocational college.

Brookstone offers courses in a number of health care and business programs. In the medical field, it has diploma programs in Medical and Health Office Technology, Medical Assisting, and Pharmacy Technology. In the non-medical field, the school has training in everything from accounting to information processing technology.

Medical and Health Office Technology

The Medical and Health Office Technology program trains graduates to work in the administrative side of the medical setting. The curriculum is designed to cover all of the basic functions expected for entry-level workers in this field. It includes medical terminology, office procedures, and medical processing. Upon graduation, students are awarded a diploma of completion.

Medical Assisting

The Medical Assisting program trains graduates to work as medical assistants or medical office assistants at the entry level. In addition to learning basic administrative duties related to health care, students learn the clinical side, as well. This includes the skills they need to work directly with patients, doing everything from drawing blood to assisting doctors and nurses.

However, many students choose to move on to the administrative side, where they find employment in insurance, billing, and admissions. Graduates of this program receive a diploma of completion and are eligible to sit for the Certified Medical Assistant exam through the American Association of Medical Assistants.

Pharmacy Technology

The Pharmacy Technology program trains graduates to work with licensed pharmacists in a variety of pharmacy settings, from hospitals to retail outlets. At the basic level, courses include anatomy and medical terminology, which then moves on to include mediation dosing, pharmacy billing procedures, and drug distribution systems. Graduates receive a diploma of completion.

Faculty

The faculty members at Brookstone College are dedicated to their students' success. All incoming students gets access to a “faculty mentor” who works directly with them to get the most out of the educational experience. This type of hands-on learning is expanded upon graduation, when students can choose to work with the job placement staff for help in finding employment.

Facilities

The facilities at Brookstone College of Business are kept modern and up-to-date with industry standards. The intent is to simulate the real working world as much as possible, particularly with the computers used in today's top medical and pharmaceutical offices.

Accreditation

The school is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools, giving it the authority to bestow program diplomas. This accreditation is not regional, so students may have difficulty transferring their credits to other schools should they fail to complete the entire Brookstone course. Further accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs is awarded on the Medical Assisting program, which is why students can sit for the national CMA exam upon graduation.

Financial Aid

Brookstone College accepts most of the typical government and private financial aid options. Prospective students interested in applying for federal or state funding should fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form and submit it according to the guidelines. From there, the school's financial aid office typically works with each student to create a “financial aid package” that combines the awarded grants and loans with private loans or payment plans.
