About Colorado Technical University
Colorado Technical University first opened its doors in 1965 in, of course, Colorado. From its onset, students were meant to be prepared for careers in the cutting-edge of technology and labor needs. Despite the traditional degrees bestowed by the school, the emphasis always has been on career-focused learning.
As an institution, Colorado Technical University grants everything from Associate to Doctorate degrees (which were added to the curriculum in 1995). Part of the school's mission is to provide support services in the form of career planning, academic advice, and financial aid services.
The Denver campus of Colorado Technical University is a modern state-of-the-art facility. The student base is composed primarily of adults seeking to start new careers or further their existing ones, and most students work at least part-time while attending classes.
In addition to the numerous health care options, this campus offers business, criminal justice, technology, and accounting degree programs.
Medical Assisting (Associate of Applied Science & Diploma)
The Associate of Applied Science in Medical Assisting degree program offers training in patient care – including phlebotomy, EKG's, clinical work, and emergency procedures – as well as the basics of office administration. Because it is an AAS degree, there are additional general requirements in English, mathematics, and business.
All graduates are eligible to take the Registered Medical Assistant exam, although a passing score is not guaranteed and may require additional studying and fees. The Medical Assisting program is also available at this campus as a Diploma Program.
Surgical Technology (Associate of Science)
The Associate of Applied Science in Surgical Technology program gives students the ability to work in entry-level positions in hospitals, surgical centers, dental offices, and a variety of clinics. The course includes a 500-hour clinical rotation.
Health Information Technology (Associate of Science)
Offered as an Associate Degree, the Health Information Technology (HIT) program at CTU offers concentrations in Health Care Coding and Billing or Technology. Both courses of study focus on biomedical sciences, general education, and a solid foundation of HIPAA. Graduates of this program will be prepared to seek entry-level employment in the health care industry.
Faculty & Facilities
Class sizes are kept small to allow faculty members to focus their attention on the learning experience of each student. Advisory boards are maintained to aid in the hiring process, utilizing the area's business community to find qualified instructors and maintain a high level of technological relevance.
The curriculum and classroom facilities are updated regularly to stay competitive with the market trends. Faculty members are chosen based on their experience and qualifications, and are also encouraged to continue their own professional growth to strengthen the school's ability to stay abreast of technology.
Accreditation
As an institution, Colorado Technical University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. This particular campus is a member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and is recognized by the Coordinating Board for Higher Education, Missouri Department of Higher Education.
Financial Aid
Financial aid planning is offered through each campus's respective offices. Drawing on federal and state funding options (through FAFSA and military entities) as well as private funding options, the school offers its students a number of options, assuming the students qualify. Career support services are available to help graduates secure employment by offering assistance with finding jobs, writing resumes, and going through interviews.
