Medical Assistant (Associate's Degree)

For those who want to get more directly involved in actual medical care, Harrison College also offers an Associate’s degree in for Medical Assistant. Training in this program takes eight quarters, and it includes training for both front and back office.

These individuals are able to assess vital signs, administer medications, assist with minor surgeries, perform laboratory tests, and more. Graduates of the Medical Assistant program become vital members of their patients’ health care teams.

Medical Reimbursement Technology (Associate's Degree)

Lasting 8-9 quarters, the Medical Reimbursement Technology program at Harrison College is available in an Associate of Applied Science format. Also available as an online program, the AAS in Medical Reimbursement Technology degree program focuses on skills such as using medical office software programs, scheduling appointments, submitting electronic claims forms, and inputting patient registration and insurance data. Coursework also focuses on the compliance with managed care policies, in addition to federal and state regulations. Graduates will be well-prepared to seek employment at insurance companies, clinics, inpatient care facilities, physician's offices, and medical billing management companies.

Medical Office Assistant (Diploma)

A diploma is also available for Medical Office Assistant. This program takes four quarters and prepares students for the administrative end of the medical practice. The skills acquired through this program would include reception, medical record filing, scheduling, bookkeeping, and word processing. The Medical Office Assistant is able to work directly with patients but without administering medical assistance.

The student-to-faculty ratio at the Elkhart campus of Harrison College is about 20:1, which makes for small enough classes that students get a lot of individual attention.
