Downtown Fresno, CA
In the midst of a revitalization effort, Fresno, CA is home to some classic Californian architecture, in addition to new construction. Beginning in the 1990's the city of Fresno has slowly revamped the downtown area, and added buildings such as the Federal Courthouse, Grizzlies Stadium, in addition to Chukchansi Park. With plans in the works for additional high-rise buildings, downtown Fresno is on the move!
While some buildings are being saved (such as those in Chinatown and the Fulton Mall areas), others are being torn down. Examples of buildings that have been torn down include the Vagabond Hotel, and the old Army Induction Center. Both have been replaced by commercial lofts, and serve as an example of the balance between old and new that exists in the revitalization effort.
