About Sanford-Brown College

As a name, Sanford-Brown College has been in existence for over 140 years. Sanford-Brown College and other schools under the Sanford-Brown name are vocational training centers that provide basic training in a number of cutting edge fields.

Hazelwood, MO Health Care StudentThe school's mission is to “offer focused, quality, short-term, non-degree career-oriented programs.” The school has always been focused on practical training offered in a fast format to enable students to get out the door and into their careers. Today, the focus of the training is centered on technology, business, and health care.

In its current form, Sanford-Brown is a subsidiary of the Career Education Corporation network, a company with over 80 for-profit postsecondary educational facilities throughout the United States.

Almost all of these facilities are similar to Sanford-Brown in terms of the nature of vocational training. The three diploma programs include Dental Assisting, Medical Assisting, and Medical Billing and Coding.

Medical Assistant (Specialized Associate Degree & Diploma)

The Medical Assistant program provides students with the skills they need to work alongside other medical professionals in a clinic or office capacity.

Training includes clinical care as well as administrative tasks. Graduates are not eligible to take the Certified Medical Assistant exams until further experience and/or education occurs. However, students may be eligible to take the Registered Medical Assistant exam.

Medical Billing & Coding (Specialized Associate Degree & Diploma)

The Medical Billing and Coding program prepares students to work in the insurance and records departments of a variety of health care establishments. The course includes an externship of practical work at an outside facility.

Graduates are eligible to take the Certified Coding Associate and Certified Professional Coder-Apprentice exams; however the official Certified Professional Coder exam and other relevant certifications require more experience and/or education.

Dental Assistant (Certificate)

Equipping graduates with the skills they need in order to seek entry-level employment as dental assistants, the Dental Assistant curriculum at SBC is a Certificate program. In addition to pathology, dental anatomy, and dental instruments, students in this program receive instruction on x-rays, radiography, and chair-side assistance techniques. Consisting of lecture, lab, and clinical coursework, the program also includes a final externship.

Class sizes are kept small and instructors are chosen for their experience in each field. This combination is meant to provide personalized attention and fast-paced learning. The school prides itself on its non-traditional approach to learning, including offering flexible class times, weekend learning options, and concentrated diploma programs.

At the institution level, Sanford-Brown College is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools, making it recognized by the United States Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

The school offers the assistance of its financial aid staff to help students map out the payment plans, fill out the necessary forms, and learn about the types of financial aid available to them.
