As a name, Sanford-Brown College has been in existence for over 140 years. Sanford-Brown College and other schools under the Sanford-Brown name are vocational training centers that provide basic training in a number of cutting edge fields.

Hillside, IL Health Care StudentThe school's mission is to “offer focused, quality, short-term, non-degree career-oriented programs.” The school has always been focused on practical training offered in a fast format to enable students to get out the door and into their careers. Today, the focus of the training is centered on technology, business, and health care.

In its current form, Sanford-Brown is a subsidiary of the Career Education Corporation network, a company with over 80 for-profit postsecondary educational facilities throughout the United States.

Cardiovascular Sonography (Certificate)

A key part of any heart health care team, the Cardiovascular Sonography program at Sanford-Brown College is designed to prepare graduates for a career as a Cardiovascular Technician or Sonographer.

In addition to learning how to evaluate images to see if they are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes, students will learn how to send images to a doctor, explain procedures to patients, record medical history, detect differences between health and disease, and effectively operate sonography equipment.

Diagnostic Medical Sonography (Certificate)

Through a series of lecture, lab, and externship coursework, the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer program will prepare students to seek entry-level employment as diagnostic medical sonographers. In addition to learning how to perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations, students of this course of study will learn about vascular ultrasound, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology.

Medical Assistant (Certificate)

The Medical Assistant program provides students with the skills they need to work alongside other medical professionals in a clinic or office capacity. Training includes clinical care as well as administrative tasks. Graduates are not eligible to take the Certified Medical Assistant exams until further experience and/or education occurs. However, students may be eligible to take the Registered Medical Assistant exam.

Health Information Management (Certificate)

Available as a Certificate program, the Health Information Management curriculum centers around the knowledge needed in order to become a health information management technician. In addition to learning the numerical code for medical diseases, procedures, and conditions, students will learn how to make sure medical records are accurate and up-to-date. A vital part of any health care team, health information management technicians are both responsible and organized.
