MedVance Institute was originally founded in 1970 under the name Cumberland School of Medical Technology. With 10 campuses and numerous programs to choose from, MedVance Institute provides a speedy and professional trained avenue for those who wish to embark upon a rewarding and fulfilling career in the Allied Health industry.

Houston, TX Health Care StudentOur health care industry is seeing an increase in patient needs and a shortage of trained health care workers to provide the necessary support in hospitals and other health care facilities. This demand is creating a tremendous opportunity for those wishing to enter the healthcare workplace in a support capacity.

Applicants wishing to attend MedVance need to contact the Admissions Office for specific program requirements, but it is expected that the applicant to have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

Medical Assisting

Providing hands-on care to patients, medical assistants work closely with physicians and other practitioners, performing a wide range of office and clinical duties. In addition to hands-on training, graduates of the Medical Assisting program at MedVance Institute are eligible to take the Medical Assistant Certification exam.

Upon graduation, students of the Medical Assisting program at MedVance - Houston are well-prepared to seek employment in a variety of health care settings, including long-term care facilities, hospitals, outpatient clinics, blood banks, physician and dental offices, rehab facilities, insurance companies, and pain management clinics.

Medical Billing & Coding Specialist

Preparing graduates for an exciting career in the health care industry, the Medical Billing & Coding Specialist program at Medvance Institute - Houston focuses on the skills needed in order to represent the interests of both the patient and the practice.

Houston, TX Health Care StudentIn addition to learning about how to analyze health records and complete insurance forms using coding, this curriculum is designed to give graduates the skills needed in order to pursue employment in a physician's office, HMO, insurance or billing company, diagnostic center, or hospital.

Vocational Nursing

A great way to prepare for an exciting career in the health care industry, the Vocational Nursing program prepares graduates to seek employment in long-term care facilities, physician's offices, inpatient clinics, outpatient clinics, and corporate offices.

In addition to learning how to practice direct patient care in a wide variety of settings, students of the Vocational Nursing program at MedVance Institute will learn in both classroom and practical hands-on settings. Graduates of this program will be eligible to take the vocational nursing licensing examination to become designated as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN).

Sterile Processing Technology


Preparing graduates for a career as a Sterile Processing Technician, the Sterile Processing Technology program at MedVance Institute is centers around the handling of surgical instruments.

Coursework also includes the study of infection control techniques, and microbiology. A combination of classroom study and hands-on lab training, graduates of this program are eligible to take the the Central Sterile Processing Technician national certification exam.

Surgical Technology


The Surgical Technology program at MedVance Institute is designed to prepare graduates for employment as a Surgical Technologist in emergency rooms, hospital operating rooms, labor and delivery rooms, private surgery practices, and outpatient surgery centers.

Training at MedVance Institute focuses on hands-on, real-world experience, and includes training in coordinating operating room schedules, supplying surgeons with the proper tools, working with surgeons, setting up instruments and equipment, and making sure the operating room meets precise standards.
