Medical Assistant (Associate of Applied Science)
For those who want to get more directly involved in actual medical care, Harrison College also offers an Associate’s degree in for Medical Assistant. Training in this program takes eight quarters, and it includes training for both front and back office.
These individuals are able to assess vital signs, administer medications, assist with minor surgeries, perform laboratory tests, and more. Graduates of the Medical Assistant program become vital members of their patients’ health care teams.
Medical Laboratory Technology (Associate of Applied Science)
Consisting of 112 total credit hours, the Associate of Applied Science degree in Medical Laboatoy Technology is designed to provide graduates with a balanced curriculum of science, math, general education, clinical, and technical instruction. In addition to learning how to process and analyze biological specimens, students will learn how to perform procedures in collections. Prepare graduates for a career in the health care industry, students will be well-prepared to seek employment in industrial/research labs, physician office labs, or reference laboratories.
Medical Office Assistant (Certificate)
A certificate program is also available for Medical Office Assistant. This program takes four quarters and prepares students for the administrative end of the medical practice. The skills acquired through this program would include reception, medical record filing, scheduling, bookkeeping, and word processing. The Medical Office Assistant is able to work directly with patients but without administering medical assistance.
Medical Reimbursement Technology (Associate of Applied Science)
Lasting 8-9 quarters, the Medical Reimbursement Technology program at Harrison College is available in an Associate of Applied Science format. Also available as an online program, the AAS in Medical Reimbursement Technology degree program focuses on skills such as using medical office software programs, scheduling appointments, submitting electronic claims forms, and inputting patient registration and insurance data.
Coursework also focuses on the compliance with managed care policies, in addition to federal and state regulations. Graduates will be well-prepared to seek employment at insurance companies, clinics, inpatient care facilities, physician's offices, and medical billing management companies.
Occupational Medical Spanish (Certificate)
A 24-credit hour program, the Certificate in Occupational Medical Spanish is designed to provide graduates with the ability to effectively communicate with Spanish-speaking patients. In addition to learning reading and writing skills, students will practive both oral and aural skills. As a result of the program, students will be able to facilitate routine medical office procedures in Spanish.
Surgical Technology (Associate of Applied Science)
Preparing students to become a valuable member of the surgical team, graduates of the Surgical Technology program will be prepared to seek entry-level employment at a hospital, surgical center, or medical center. An Associate's degree program, the curriculum balances clinical and academic coursework, giving students the skills they need in order to enter the exciting field of surgical technology.
Therapeutic and Clinical Massage (Associate of Applied Science)
Consisting of 96 total credit hours, the Associate of Applied Science in Therapeutic and Clinical Massage is designed to provide students with an understanding of the body, its functions, and how these connect through massage techniques and therapeutic skills. In addition to learning about kinesiology, students will study sports massage, neuromuscular therapy, and therapeutic massage. A well-rounded program, graduates will be ready for entry-level massage positions and the pursuit of national certification.
Therapeutic Massage Practitioner (Certificate)
A certificate program that can transfer into the A.A.S massage program, the Therapeutic Massage Practitioner Certificate is designed to give graduates the skills needed in order to treat injuries, promote health, reduce stress, aid in recovery, and raise body awareness in patients. In addition to learning multiple techniques, students will also focus on the general relaxation of their patients.
Faculty & Facilities
The student-to-faculty ratio at the Indianapolis campus of Harrison College is about 20:1, which makes for small enough classes that students get a lot of individual attention. Members of the faculty are skilled and have experience in the health care field. For more than 100 years, the instructors at Harrison College have been preparing students to start their careers. The Indianapolis branch of the Harrison College is a modern facility with up to date classrooms and lab settings. Medical labs allow students to get hands-on training in their chosen fields.
Accreditation
Harrison College has been accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools. They are therefore permitted to award certificates, diplomas, Associate of Applied Science, and Bachelor of Science degrees.
The Medical Assisting program has been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. Additionally, the school is a member of many groups and associations including the Career College Association, the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, and the National Business Education Association.
