About Keiser University
Keiser University is a private school with campuses across Florida state. The school’s focus is on career education with an emphasis on personalized attention.
For this reason, classes are kept deliberately small to allow for more interaction between students and instructors. They strive to help each student meet his or her personal educational needs. This extends to offering flexible schedules and the option to take many courses online.
Health Service Administration
Keiser University offers a Bachelor’s degree for those considering the health care field. The Health Services Administration program (an Associate’s is also available) teaches students the skills needed to work in the administrative end of health care. Areas of study include coding and billing, as well as legal issues.
Medical Assistant
While working with specialized high-tech equipment is fun, some career choices allow students to use a wider range of technology. Medical Assistants are trained to use a whole host of different machines.
In addition, Medical Assistants get to work directly with the patients they are helping. Either way, graduates with these Associate’s degrees or Diplomas (depending on course of study) are truly important members of a patient’s health care team.
Nursing
Students can earn an Associate's Degree in nursing at Keiser. Nursing is one of the most in-demand professions today. Graduates have little trouble finding employment at a livable wage in an exciting field. Keiser nursing graduates are employed in many nursing specialties and in a variety of clinical settings.
Keiser’s Associate Degree nursing program gives the student clinically focused education that prepares him or her to communicate effectively in written and spoken form, utilize critical thinking for problem solving, collaborate with other health care team members and with patients, and practice the nursing process utilizing skills of observation, assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention and evaluation.
Associate Degree nursing graduates can take the NCLEX exam and be licensed as Registered Nurses, and are qualified for entry level nursing positions.
Massage Therapy
As a student in the Massage Therapy program you will receive instruction in therapeutic massage. You will also be taught about the structure and function of the human body.
Students will be trained in hydrotherapy, the legal issues associated with massage, the prevention of medical errors, and other related massage techniques. Depending on course of study, graduates will receive an Associate of Science Degree or Diploma with a major in Massage Therapy.
Radiologic Technology
Equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to accurately and professionally perform diagnostic imaging services, graduates of the Radiologic Technology program will be prepared to seek entry level employment in this exciting and rewarding field.
Students of this program will learn how to use critical thinking and problem solving, and develop vital communication skills. In addition, students will learn medical terminology, radiographic procedures, radiation protection, and equipment operation techniques.
Nuclear Medicine Technology
Instructing students with the skills needed in order to seek entry-level employment in this exciting field, the Nuclear Medicine Technology program develops a students ability to perform entry-level nuclear medicine procedures.
Instruction includes how to attend to patients, perform dose calculations, and the use of radioactive material in order to diagnose, treat, and visualize pathology. In addition, students will learn about radiopharmaceuticals, in-vivo and in-vitro diagnostic studies, and radiation safety.
Sports Medicine & Fitness Technology
An Associate’s degree is also available in Sports Medicine and Fitness Technology. This program helps students prepare for entry-level jobs helping patients prevent and recover from a variety of injuries. Students can conduct exercise sessions, teach patients about risk factors for their specific situations, and to help motivate patients to do the work necessary to see the best results.
Faculty & Facilities
Because Keiser University focuses so heavily on individualized attention, the faculty members must be onboard with the agenda. The student-to-instructor ratio is intentionally low to allow for more one-on-one time. Students also attend only one class at a time for a month each, so they get the opportunity to really know their instructors.
In order to best prepare students to step into the health care world, Keiser University offers education in modern, up-to-date facilities. Classroom instruction includes the use of equipment that will typically be found out in the workplace. Unlike many “career schools,” Keiser University actually has student housing on its Lakeland campus. Keiser’s health care school is based in Lakeland, Florida. An ideal place to live and go to school, Lakeland is in the heart of central Florida. You'll find beautiful lakeside parks plus a restored downtown area with historic architecture including Florida Southern College's 18 campus structures designed by Frank Lloyd Write in 1938.
There is the Polk Museum of Art filled with pre Columian art and sculpture, Explorations V Children's Museum for the kids and the Florida Air Museum for all aircraft buffs.
You may remember the hit movie Edward Scissorhands with Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder. Part of the movie was filmed at Lakeland's Southgate Shopping Center.
The city is also home to one of the first Hindu temples as well as the first Red Lobster. These two facts have nothing in common except that they are interesting.
Did you know that the Dixieland Historic District, a US National Historic Landmark District is located in Lakeland? The Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Lakeland, FL received the honor of Best Place to Work Award during the 2006 Success Rally in March of 2007. This is the fourth year in a row they have won the award.
The center also earned Quality Respiratory Care Recognition under a national program designed to help patients and their families make informed decisions about their respiratory care when in the hospital.
