About Kaplan College
Kaplan College was created in 1937, when its parent company, Kaplan Inc., bought a business training school known as the American Institute of Commerce and changed it over to its new name. Kaplan Inc. owns and operates over 64 different schools around the United States, and it also offers a variety of online training programs. Kaplan College campuses can be found in Maryland, Ohio, Washington, Wisconsin, Arizona, Colorado, Maryland, and Nevada.
The school's vocational training courses are offered in the fields of business, computers, legal studies, and health care. The Milwaukee, Maryland campus offers a number of health care options, including Associate degrees and/or certificates.
Graduates of all the programs may be eligible to sit for the relevant national and state certification exams, but the school does not guarantee eligibility or a passing score.
Medical Assistant (Diploma)
The Medical Assisting program at Kaplan - Milwaukee is a Diploma curriculum, equipping graduates with the skills needed in order to seek entry-level employment as a medical assistant.
Designed to prepare students for entry-level work in a variety of settings, including private clinics, blood banks, and nursing homes, graduates of this program are eligible to sit for the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) exam. Coursework in this program includes recording vital signs, injections, administering EKG's, assisting with minor surgical procedures, and basic office work/accounting procedures.
Pharmacy Technician (Diploma)
Covering topics such as pharmaceutical prep and delivery, pharmacology, and pharmacokinetics, the Pharmacy Technician program at Kaplan College is a diploma curriculum. Consisting of 750 training hours, this program also includes coursework in keyboarding, pharmacy administration, drug names and common usage, and pharmacy operations. Graduates of this program will be equipped with the skills needed in order to seek entry-level employment as a Pharmacy Technician.
Dental Assistant (Diploma)
Offering training that is extremely diverse, graduates of the Dental Assistant program are also equipped with a Radiology Certificate, a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate and a Coronal Polishing Certificate. Coursework in the Dental Assistant program includes chair-side assistance, x-rays, patient prep, and general office procedures. Graduates of this program are prepared to seek entry-level employment as a Dental Assistant.
Massage Therapy (Diploma)
A hands-on program, the Diploma in Massage Therapy curriculum at Kaplan College is designed to equip graduates with the skills needed in order to seek employment in a spa, resort, cruise ship, hair salon, country club, or health club.
In addition to learning technical skills and career-specific job knowledge, graduates will also be able to take the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage (NCETM) presented by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB).
Medical Office Specialist (Diploma)
A Diploma program, the Medical Office Specialist curriculum at Kaplan College equips graduates with the skills needed in order to seek entry-level employment in this exciting field. Throughout lecture and hands-on training, this program focuses on the skills needed in order to help run a profitable, professional, and efficient office in a variety of health care settings.
Faculty
All faculty members are chosen for their experience in the field. They are expected to share their knowledge of the "hows and whys" of working in a real medical office in order to give students a competitive edge in the job market. Class sizes are kept small to allow instructors to work directly with students to help accomplish these goals.
Facilities
The school's Milwaukee facilities are located in the heart of Milwaukee, offering a convenient location for area students. Access to computers, online services, and other technological amenities is available to all registered students. Students in specific medical-related programs have further access to the necessary technology, including centrifuges, exam tables, and massage chairs.
Accreditation
As an educational institution, Kaplan College is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools. It does not have regional accreditation, so the transfer of credits to another educational institution outside of the Kaplan name may be difficult.
Financial Aid
Financial aid may be available for those who qualify. Students are expected to complete and submit the FAFSA form prior to enrolling in courses in order to determine their eligibility for federal and state funding.
