North County (Vista), CA Health Care StudentThe North County campus of Kaplan College offers certificates in a number of areas. The curriculum includes real-world situations so that students are fully prepared to begin their careers.

While traditional day classes are available, Kaplan College also holds evening classes for adults who are currently working but are hoping to either advance or make a switch to the health care industry.

Medical Assistant (Diploma)

Kaplan College's North County campus offers a diploma for their Medical Assistant program. These graduates are well equipped to assist doctors and nurses during exams and procedures, as well as to do charting and reception work.

X-Ray Technician/Back Office Medical Assistant (Diploma)

The X-Ray Technician/Back Office Medical Assistant diploma really gives graduates an advantage in their job searches. In addition to preparing students to take the California State Examination to become an x-ray technician, it also teaches the skills required to help operate a medical office. Students may choose to become x-ray technicians or to work as back office medical assistants.

Healthcare and Rehab Technician (Certificate)

A Certificate program, the Healthcare and Rehab Technician curriculum focuses on several areas. From anatomy and physiology, students will learn about data entry, patient intake, urinalysis, medical terminology, sterilization procedures, and patient intake. In addition, graduates will be proficient in phlebotomy procedures, and Occupational Therapy Aid studies.

Massage Therapy (Certificate)

The Kaplan College massage therapy program is a 36 week class leading to a certificate in Massage Therapy. Graduates are qualified to sit for the National Certification Exam for Therapeutic Massage and Body Work. The curriculum is broken into six modules and includes 370 hours of theory, 290 hours of laboratory skill practice and 60 hours of clinical practice. Students learn Shiatsu, Swedish massage, Eastern and sports massage, and other techniques and therapies.

Medical Administrative and Insurance Specialist (Certificate)

Health Care Students - Vista, CAPreparing students for entry-level positions in this exciting field, the Medical Administrative and Insurance Specialist curriculum is a Certificate program. Graduates will be equipped with the skills needed in order to navigate through the procedures involved in Medi-Cal, Medicare, SSA, VA, and Worker's Compensation.

As graduates are eligible to sit for the Insurance and Coding Specialist Examination, this program is designed to familiarize students with the maze of procedures and regulations that are a part of the business.

A certificate program, the Medical Insurance Coder curriculum is designed to equip students with valuable career skills. In addition to preparing graduates to take the Certified Professional Coder Exam, this program focuses on computer date entry, insurance coding, insurance claims processing, medical terminology, and medical management.

Pharmacy Technician (Certificate)

A Certificate program, graduates of the Pharmacy Technician curriculum will be well prepared to seek entry-level employment as a Pharmacy Technician. Providing students with a solid foundation of the skills needed for both clinical and front office operations, this program will also help prepare students for the Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPT) exam.

Faculty

Not only do Kaplan College faculty members have experience in the medical field, but many of them are still active. This means that they are up-to-date on many of the most recent technologies and trends and are able to keep their students current.

Both faculty and staff are available to help students as they adjust to college life and as they work through their programs. Students receive individual advisement and even have the opportunity to work with tutors.

Facilities

The North County campus is a modern facility that is filled with state-of-the-art equipment. Free parking is available. Classrooms and laboratories have been built to allow for actual hands-on experience, and the library and learning resource center are available to augment classroom studies.

The equipment includes everything from up-to-date electrocardiograph machines and x-ray machines to personal computers and 10-key machines. The campus includes student lounges and computer labs, too.

Accreditation

Kaplan College has been accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology and has been licensed by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education. Other approvals have been bestowed by organizations like the National Center for Competency Testing, the California Department of Health Services, the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology, and others.

The school is also a member of the Association of American Medical Technologists, Career College Association, California Association of Private Postsecondary Schools, and Alpha Beta Kappa National Honor Society.
