About North-West College
Founded by the Fuerst family in 1966, over 35,000 students have graduated from their various medical and business related programs in the schools 40+ year history. The Fuerst’s family has been active in allied health since the 1950’s, and the tradition is carried on through North West College’s commitment to educate and train valuable members of the medical business field.
The guiding philosophy of North West College is to provide the highest level of education to its students in order to prepare them for rich, challenging, and rewarding careers.
This is accomplished with professional staff members who have experience in the areas they teach. With a curriculum tailored for the specific needs of the industry, North West focuses on technical skills needed to succeed.
Dental Assistant
Preparing graduates for to seek entry-level employment as a Dental Assistant, this program focuses on the skills needed in order to prep patients and assist the dentist during char-side procedures. In addition, students of this program will learn how to take and process dental x-rays, provide patient education, perform infection control procedures, and perform basic lab procedures.
While most graduates seek employment in private dental facilities, opportunities exist in group-practice offices, in addition to federal agencies, clinics, and hospitals. This curriculum includes a student internship workshop.
Massage Therapy
It is only recently that massage therapy has gained recognition in the United States as an effective method for alleviating and preventing pain. The demand for qualified massage therapists is growing as more and more people recognize the benefits. At Northwest, students are prepared to enter this competitive and rewarding field.
Some of the main areas of concentration for Massage Therapy students are swedish massage, Shiatsu massage, sports massage/Reflexology, spa services, Wellness Strategies, deep tissue massage, understanding pain, alternative massage methods, and CPR
Upon completion of the Massage Therapy program, graduates will be prepared to seek employment in hospitals, pain management clinics, rehabilitation clinics, nursing homes, spas, salons, and private practice, among other opportunities. They will also be able to effectively work with a variety of clients with differing physical and emotional needs.
Medical Assistant
A varied and diverse profession, and North West is diligent about preparing students to be successful medical assistants. Duties of the medical assistant may include setting up exam rooms, giving immunizations, and administrative duties like scheduling appointments, ordering supplies, and handling insurance forms and correspondence. In addition to learning secretarial duties, office procedures, and communications, students of NWC’s Medical Assistant program will learn lab and EKG procedures as well as vital computer skills.
In addition to courses specific to the Medical Assistant program, students also benefit from ongoing job preparation. Career planning is emphasized throughout the course of study. Students preparing to graduate have access to an online job links library for help in finding a great place to start their careers. Also, NWC provides a placement assistance program.
While placement is not guaranteed, the staff does provide all possible assistance for students. They even help with setting up interviews. Doctors, dentists, and hospital supervisors contact NWC for job candidates because of the reliable education they receive there. NWC students have excellent job prospects.
Medical Clerical Staff (Multiple Programs)
An important part of any health care team, a member of the Medical Clerical Staff is responsible for many activities, including: computerized billing, coding insurance forms, accounts payable and receivable, and maintaining patient charts. At North-West College - Pasadena, the Medical Clerical Staff training options include programs for the prospective Medical Administrative Assistant, Medical Insurance Biller, and Medical Receptionist.
A diverse training program, graduates of the these curriculums at North-West College are prepared to seek entry-level employment in private practices, clinical settings, HMO's, group-practices, nursing homes, research centers, labs, and hospitals. Through coursework that also includes transcribing doctor's orders, scheduling appointments, and typing correspondence, graduates of this program are left with a well-rounded educational experience.
Pharmacy Technician
Part of the growing health care profession, Pharmacy Technicians enjoy a rewarding and exciting role in the health care industry. At North-West College, the Pharmacy Technician program focuses on the skills needed in order to professionally and efficiently assist the Pharmacist.
Training in this program includes coursework in preparing IV's, packaging medication, receiving prescriptions, using drug distribution systems, calculating does, labeling prescriptions, filling patient cassettes, and interacting with patients. Graduates of this hands-on training program are well equipped to seek entry-level employment in hospitals, retail pharmacies, pharmaceutical companies, and HMO's.

North West College participates in federal financial aid programs and accepts Pell grants, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity grants (FSEOG), Direct Loans, Perkins Loans, FFEL Loans, private educational loans, and tuition payment plans. Ninety-eight percent of NWC students use financial aid to fund their educations.
