About Everest University
The Pinellas (Largo) campus of Everest University is designed to provide career training for entry-level employment. Their focus in on hands-on training, real-world experience, and personalized attention. This sunny Florida location utilizes the best local resources to round out the educational experience, including local offices for the Medical Assisting externship program.
The school was formerly known as Florida Metropolitan University. It now operates as a subsidiary of Corinthian Colleges and has locations around North America.
In addition to the degree programs, of which most of the health-related courses are part, the school has additional options in Associate, Bachelor, and Master degrees in a variety of fields.
The school prides itself on building a strong focus on post-graduation employment; to that end, it offers training meant to simulate working conditions and career services.
Medical Assisting
The Medical Assisting option focus on both the clinical and administrative facets of working in the health care industry; in the Medical Assisting program, the training is complemented by a 160-hour externship.
Health Care Administration
In addition to Health Care Administration, Medical Assisting, Pharmacy Technician, Assisted Living Administrator, and Medical Insurance Billing & Coding training, the campus offers business, paralegal, and even criminal justice programs. The Health Care Administration program is a Bachelor of Science degree program. It trains students not only in the field of health care, but also in general studies meant to foster a lifetime of learning.
Pharmacy Technician
For a little taste of both worlds, the Pharmacy Technician program might be the right fit. This program prepares students for both the behind-the-scenes jobs of calculating medications and for the front-of-house customer service needed to interact directly with patients. While jobs at hospitals and clinics are certainly available, there is also the retail market to consider for employment.
Massage Therapy
Students who really want to interact with patients as part of a health care team might consider the Massage Therapy program at Everest College.
While this program obviously teaches about tools and techniques, it goes even further to take a look at the ethics and behaviors required of a Massage Therapist. Some of the techniques taught include Pre-Natal, Post-Natal and Infant, and Elder Massage. Eastern and Western theories are also explored.
Medical Insurance Billing & Coding
