This program gives the student a foundational understanding of the sciences related to nursing such as anatomy, physiology and psychology while giving a heavy emphasis on the administrative aspects of nursing, such as documentation and patient monitoring. Successful graduates are able to write a state-sponsored certification exam allowing them to join the health care workforce in entry levels of health care support such as in hospitals and clinics.
Massage Therapy - Associate's Degree or Diploma
The Massage Therapy program at Medical Careers Institute provides graduates with either an associate degree or a diploma, depending on the campus. The goal of the program is to provide students with all of the training required to begin an entry level career as a massage therapist. Graduates are designated as a Licensed Massage Therapist (North Carolina) or a Certified Massage Therapist (Virginia).
The program teaches the various techniques of therapeutic massage with a primary focus on the medical and rehabilitative benefits of massage therapy. The program also provides students with the essentials of sound business principles and prepares them to operate successfully in the workplace. A critical component of the program is providing clinical experience and the opportunity for hands-on applications of the training through an externship.
Once the program is completed, graduates may apply to take the National Certification Exam with the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB).
Upon certification, graduates will find opportunities in a variety of venues including spas, fitness centers, private industry, sports teams, medical offices, rehab centers and more.
Practical Nursing - Diploma
This program offers a theoretical background with a heavy emphasis on practical training in the provision of health care support.
The student will learn to work with clients and health care team members while using critical thought in the performance of requisite duties ensuring the safety of the patient and quality of care provided by the physician and the facility.
This program results in a diploma for successful graduates who then may write the NCLEX for certification. Student course work for this degree will focus on general nursing care, pharmacology, and basic human anatomy.
