Students at Eastwick College can choose from a variety of health care programs, including Allied Health, Cardiovascular Sonography, Surgical Technology, Medical Billing and Coding, Medical Assisting, Ultrasound Technology, and Licensed Practical Nursing.
Allied Health - Associate's Degree
Available in day or evening classes, the Allied Health program at Eastwick College is designed to prepare graduates for employment as a medical secretary, medical assistant, or medical office manager. Some graduates also pursue employment as an EKG technician, ward clerk, unit secretary, or patient care technician.
In addition to hands-on training and flexible class schedules, graduates are eligible to sit for the for the following exam certifications: the National Certified EKG Technician (NCET), National Certified Phlebotomy Technician (NCPT), and Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
Cardiovascular Sonography - Associate's Degree
Available as an Associate's Degree program, the Cardiovascular Sonography program at Eastwick College is designed to prepare graduates to seek employment as a cardiovascular or non-invasive vascular technician.
In addition to being eligible to take the National Certified ECG Technician (NCET) and National Certified Phlebotomy Technician (NCPT) exams, graduates may also take the Cardiovascular Science exam and Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT) credential, in addition to the Registered Cardiac Sonography (RCS) exam. The Registered Cardiac Sonography (RCS)Upon graduation many students seek employment as a medical assistant, patient care technician, or EKG technician.
Medical Billing and Coding
Responsible for communication between insurance companies, patients, and medical offices, Medical Billers and Coders are charged with assigning a code to each procedure and diagnosis performed in a medical office. In addition, they provide this information to insurance companies to facilitate payment and/or determine insurance coverage.
A growing job market, Medical Billers and Coders are expected to be in demand in the near future. Students at Eastwick College learn the basics of medical billing and coding, in addition to the responsibilities of positions such as a medical biller, insurance claim administrator, medical records technician, and coding specialist.
Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN)
Learning how to work under the supervision of a physician or registered nurse, the LPN program at Eastwick College is designed to give students the skills needed in order to pursue a career in the growing field of licensed practical nursing.
In addition to a record-high demand for entry-level nurses, the industry is expecting almost 1 million vacancies in the field by 2020. Vital members of a health care team, LPN's administer medication, perform client observations, follow physician orders, and conduct diagnostic testing.
Medical Assisting
Learning how to perform a wide variety of medical tasks, the Medical Assisting program at Eastwick College is a great way to enter this exciting field. Ranked as one of the fastest growing occupations in the United States (Department of Labor), Medical Assistants perform tasks such as recording vital signs, taking medical histories, assisting physicians, prepping patients, and explaining procedures to patients.
At Eastwick College, students in the Medical Assisting curriculum will learn a wide variety of skills, in order to prepare them for a career as a medical administrator, medical assistant, or medical office manager.
Surgical Technology
A growing career field, the US Department of Labor recently reported that the field of surgical technology is growing at a rate "much faster than average". At Eastwick College, Surgical Technology students learn via hands-on training how to become a vital part of the operating room team.
In addition to assembling sterile and non-sterile equipment, students will learn how to set up sterile drapes, sterile solutions, and surgical instruments. Additionally, students will learn how to assist in the surgery by cutting sutures, applying dressings, handing instruments and supplies to the surgeon, and holding retractors.
Ultrasound Technology
A growing field, it is estimated that the area of diagnostic medical sonography will grow by roughly 19 percent through the year 2016. As such, the Ultrasound Technology program at Eastwick College is designed to train students in ultrasound procedures, preparing them for the growing demand present in health care facilities and hospitals. Learning how to use sound waves to create internal images of organs, tendons and muscles, students will learn how perform ultrasound procedures in a variety of medical settings.
Surgical Technology - Associate's Degree
Available in day or evening classes, the Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology program gives students the skills needed in order to become entry-level infection control technicians or surgical assistants. In addition to learning the core medical assisting skills necessary, students will also study clinical and administrative skills, which can be useful if seeking employment in an outpatient environment. Graduates are eligible to sit for several certifications, including National Certified ECG Technician (NCET), Tech in Surgery – Certified (TS-C [NCCT]), and the National Certified Phlebotomy Technician (NCPT).
