Dental Assistant

Preparing graduates for to seek entry-level employment as a Dental Assistant, this program focuses on the skills needed in order to prep patients and assist the dentist during char-side procedures. In addition, students of this program will learn how to take and process dental x-rays, provide patient education, perform infection control procedures, and perform basic lab procedures.

While most graduates seek employment in private dental facilities, opportunities exist in group-practice offices, in addition to federal agencies, clinics, and hospitals. This curriculum includes a student internship workshop.

Medical Assistant

A varied and diverse profession, and North West is diligent about preparing students to be successful medical assistants. Duties of the medical assistant may include setting up exam rooms, giving immunizations, and administrative duties like scheduling appointments, ordering supplies, and handling insurance forms and correspondence. In addition to learning secretarial duties, office procedures, and communications, students of NWC’s Medical Assistant program will learn lab and EKG procedures as well as vital computer skills.

In addition to courses specific to the Medical Assistant program, students also benefit from ongoing job preparation. Career planning is emphasized throughout the course of study. Students preparing to graduate have access to an online job links library for help in finding a great place to start their careers. Also, NWC provides a placement assistance program.

An important part of any health care team, a member of the Medical Clerical Staff is responsible for many activities, including: computerized billing, coding insurance forms, accounts payable and receivable, and maintaining patient charts.

At North-West College - Riverside, the Medical Clerical Staff training options include programs for the prospective Medical Administrative Assistant, Medical Insurance Biller, and Medical Receptionist.
