Health Care Management (Bachelor's Degree)
This Bachelor’s degree takes six quarters and introduces students to accounting, marketing, finance, and law in order to help them prepare to become managers in health care. Students who already have an Associate’s degree in Medical Assisting, Medical Billing, Medical Coding Technology, or Therapeutic and Clinical Massage are eligible for this program. Other AA's will also be considered.
Medical Billing & Medical Coding Technology (Associate's Degree)
Associate’s degrees are available in Medical Billing and Medical Coding Technology. Both programs take six quarters and will teach students the skills they need to go on to work in hospitals, clinics, offices, and insurance agencies. Students will learn to use a variety of software and will become well-versed in the terminology of their fields. They may be taught to analyze medical records, as well as a variety of health-related topics that are vital to working in the field.
Medical Office Assistant (Diploma)
A diploma is also available for Medical Office Assistant. This program takes four quarters and prepares students for the administrative end of the medical practice. The skills acquired through this program would include reception, medical record filing, scheduling, bookkeeping, and word processing. The Medical Office Assistant is able to work directly with patients but without administering medical assistance.
Medical Assistant (Associate's Degree)
For those who want to get more directly involved in actual medical care, Harrison College also offers an Associate’s degree in for Medical Assistant. Training in this program takes eight quarters, and it includes training for both front and back office.
These individuals are able to assess vital signs, administer medications, assist with minor surgeries, perform laboratory tests, and more. Graduates of the Medical Assistant program become vital members of their patients’ health care teams.
Faculty & Facilities
The student-to-faculty ratio at the Terre Haute campus of Harrison College is about 20:1, which makes for small enough classes that students get a lot of individual attention. Members of the faculty are skilled and have experience in the health care field. For more than 100 years, the instructors at Harrison College have been preparing students to start their careers.
The Terre Haute branch of the Harrison College moved to its current seven-acre campus in 2006. Medical labs allow students to get hands-on training in their chosen fields.
Accreditation
Harrison College has been accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools. They are therefore permitted to award certificates, diplomas, Associate of Applied Science, and Bachelor of Science degrees.
The Medical Assisting program has been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. Additionally, the school is a member of many groups and associations including the Career College Association, the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, and the National Business Education Association.
Financial Aid
Students attending Harrison College may qualify for a variety of financial aid options. Federal grants and loans are definite possibilities.
