Health Care Student - Virginia Beach, VirginiaMedical Careers Institute is part of the School of Health Science at ECPI College of Technology. MCI is a small, student and employer oriented, private school that provides fast-track education for people who want healthcare careers. Classes at MCI are small so that students receive individual attention from their instructors.

Instructors interact with students inside and outside of class and are available for individual advising, academic assistance and tutoring. Flexible scheduling options are available so that adult learners can attend school while working and maintaining busy family schedules. Medical Assistant - Associate's Degree or Diploma

This program gives the student a foundational understanding of the sciences related to nursing such as anatomy, physiology and psychology while giving a heavy emphasis on the administrative aspects of nursing, such as documentation and patient monitoring. Successful graduates are able to write a state-sponsored certification exam allowing them to join the health care workforce in entry levels of health care support such as in hospitals and clinics.


Medical Administration - Associate's Degree or Diploma

Available as an Associate's Degree or Diploma program, the Medical Administration curriculum is designed to prepare graduates for entry-level employment in a hospital, clinic, medical/dental office, or insurance and billing firm. Focusing on the effective and efficient organization and maintenance of medical records, this program is a great way to enter the exciting world of health care.

A hands- on and interactive program, the Medical Administration curriculum equips students with medical education and computer skills. In addition to learning about medical terminology, students of the Medical Administration program will also study medical transcription, computer skills (including the use of spreadsheets), pharmacology, medical ethics, and insurance and coding.

Biomedical Technology - Associate's Degree or Diploma

Available as an Associate's Degree or Diploma curriculum, the Biomedical Technology program at Medical Careers Institute equips graduates with the skills needed in order to seek employment as a electronics technician, biomedical equipment technician, biomedical support technician, computer technician, or industrial electronics technician.

In addition to establishing a solid foundation of electronics and electricity, this program focuses on the areas of medical equipment troubleshooting, biomedical instrumentation, and medical terminology. In addition, graduates will be able to troubleshoot problems with biomedical equipment, be proficient in the use of biomedical equipment, and have an entry-level knowledge of analog and digital electronics.


RN - BSN - Bachelor's Degree

Designed for Registered Nurses who hold an Associate's degree or diploma in nursing (in addition to a current Virginia license to practice), the RN to BSN program can be completed in as little as one year. Combining on-campus and online training, this curriculum is designed to work around the busy working schedule of existing RN's.

Upon graduations, students of the RN to BSN program at Medical Careers Institute will be well prepared to seek leadership and management positions in a variety of health care environments.

Practical Nursing - Diploma

This program offers a theoretical background with a heavy emphasis on practical training in the provision of health care support. The student will learn to work with clients and health care team members while using critical thought in the performance of requisite duties ensuring the safety of the patient and quality of care provided by the physician and the facility.

This program results in a diploma for successful graduates who then may write the NCLEX for certification. Student course work for this degree will focus on general nursing care, pharmacology, and basic human anatomy.


Registered Nursing - Associate's Degree

The program is designed to give students the necessary skills and knowledge to enter the health care workforce in entry-level support positions.

It is also designed to give the student both theoretical and practical experience in health care provision, with the latter providing a valuable hands-on approach that will set them apart in the health care industry as quality trained individuals.

This fifteen-month accelerated course leads to an Associate of Applied Science degree in health science with a major in registered nursing. The graduate may then write the RN-NCLEX.

Upon successful completion of this exam, the graduate may practice as a registered nurse in Virginia in such facilities as hospitals, long-term care and rehabilitation, public health, outpatient facilities, HMO’s, mental health providers and schools.

As with many Registered Nursing programs, student course work will focus on anatomy and physiology, nursing theory, pharmacology, leadership, and public health.
