About Charter College
The school defines itself as an “independent institution of higher education.” It combines what it considers the best facets of liberal arts colleges, universities, and vocational schools to create a unique learning experience.
Programs range from seven months to 30 months depending on the degree, although all of them are focused on providing a results-driven curriculum. All classes at Charter College are started on a regular basis year-round, so students aren't restricted to set quarters or semesters. In the health care field, the Wasilla campus offers training in Medical Insurance Coding and Billing, Massage Therapist, Medical Assistant, and Pharmacy Technician.
Medical Insurance Coding and Billing
The Medical Insurance Coding and Billing program prepares students for the administrative side of working in a medical office. Courses include medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, insurance processing, bills and collections, bookkeeping, and industry-standard coding techniques. Graduates are eligible to work in entry-level front office settings or in medical insurance companies. This program is the only health-based one to include an externship at a local hospital, insurance company, or medical office.
Medical Assistant
The Medical Assistant program offers training for students looking to work as medical receptionists, ECG technicians, and medical assistants. The focus of the courses is on working with both the clinical and the administrative sides of the health care field, particularly as it relates to the current standards in the medical industry.
Medical Office Administration: Medical Coding and Billing
Available as a Certificate or Associate of Applied Science Degree, the Medical Office Administration program at Charter College is designed to give graduates the skills needed in order to become a vital part of a health care team. In addition to learning basic medical terminology, students of the Medical Office Administration program will learn about coding procedures, healthcare delivery systems, human anatomy, pharmacology, physiology, pathophysiology, encoding software, medical office procedures, ICD-9-CM procedures and coding essentials, and CPT coding essentials and procedures.

Faculty members at Charter College are either active or retired professionals in their fields. They are chosen for their commitment to the learning atmosphere, and are expected to work to help students get their hands directly into the work that will define their later careers.
Facilities
Conveniently located at 1451 East Parks Highway, Suite B, all computer-based training is done on state-of-the-art processing equipment, including the software used in most medical offices around the state. Hands-on laboratories and classrooms are equipped with all the same equipment graduates will be expected to use once they secure jobs in their respective fields.
Accreditation
The Wasilla campus of Charter College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology. This accreditation is not regional, so students are not likely to be able to transfer accumulated credits to other schools.
