Wayne, NJ Health Care StudentThe Berdan Institute for Medical Secretaries was stared in 1976. A few months later it began offering Medical Assistants classes and the name was changed to the Berdan Institute. By 1979, the Dental Assisting Program was added. Other programs offered at the school include Medical Coding, Massage Therapy, Pharmacy Technician, and Medical Office Administrator.

Medical Assistant - Certificate

At the Berdan Institute, it is exciting to pursue an education in Medical Assisting. Students of this program learn a variety of skills, including those necessary to assist the doctor in helping a patient. Some of the procedures that Medical Assistants perform include checking vital signs, drawing blood, administering injections, performing EKG's, and more.

In addition to these types of skills, however, the well-rounded graduate will also know how to perform many front-office tasks like insurance claims processing, bookkeeping, and transcription, among others. The daytime Medical Assistant program takes 34 weeks, while the evening program requires a 46 week commitment.

Dental Assistant - Certificate

Those studying to become a Dental Assistant will learn how to work both with the dentist and with the patients. This multi-faceted career allows graduates to use skills in the front office, as well performing a number of basic procedures.
