McAllen, TX Health Care StudentsSTVTC offers training programs that range from six to twelve months. The accelerated pace allows students to not only gain knowledge in their fields but also work with job placement specialists to further enhance job prospects. A diploma program, the Patient Care Technician/Medical Assistant curriculum at South Texas Vocational Technical Institute is designed to equip graduates with the skills needed in order to become a nursing assistant, hospital unit clerk, or patient care technician. Graduates will be well-prepared to seek entry-level employment in a nursing home, physician's office, hospital, or other health care setting.

In addition to learning how to aid physicians and nurses during patient examinations and treatment, students will receive a balanced approach to their education, which combines classroom lectures and laboratory practice. Coursework includes lab procedures, phlebotomy, medical anatomy, CPR and first aid, office administration procedures, and medical administration procedures. A Diploma program, the Medical Administrative Assisting Technology(Billing and Coding) curriculum prepares graduates for entry-level positions in clinics, insurance companies, hospitals, doctors offices, and other health care facilities.
