About Harris School of Business
Harris School of Business is a vocational training institution with a somewhat misleading name; although business is one of the categories of training they offer, the school also offers diplomas in health care and technology. The school has been in operation for over 40 years, almost exclusively in the New Jersey region.
Drawing on local employers to provide externship opportunities and career placement, the health care options at the Wilmington campus are among the school's most popular. Harris School can be found throughout Southern New Jersey and Northern Delaware, with campuses in Linwood, Cherry Hill, and Wilmington, in addition to the Wilmington locale.
It is a subsidiary of Premier Education Group, a private, for-profit career training organization with over 19 locations under a variety of different names nationwide. As an educational institution, Premier Education Group offers skills training for entry-level careers in everything from technology to health care.
There are four diploma programs offered through the school: Health Claims Specialist, Medical Assistant, and Massage Therapy. In addition to the health care fields offered at the Wilmington location, this branch of Harris School also offers training in legal office technology and computerized accounting technology.
Health Claims Specialist (Diploma)
The Health Claims Specialist program is also commonly known as Harris School's Medical Billing & Coding program. Graduates are prepared for entry-level careers in physician offices, medical billing companies, insurance offices, nursing homes, and other administrative health offices.
Courses include the more technical side of running an office, rather than hands-on patient care. Graduates may be eligible to sit for some of the national certifications related to billing and coding.
Medical Assistant (Diploma)
The Medical Assistant program offers training for work in physician offices, private clinics, and other types of medical practices. Classes focus on medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, office procedures, computers, and communication.
Clinically, the training includes taking patient stats, preparing patients for exams, assisting physicians during the exam, laboratory work, and some patient care.
This program includes a required externship prior to graduation. (Other programs may have the option of working an externship, but they are neither guaranteed nor required.)
Massage Therapy (Diploma)
The Massage Therapy program includes training in a variety of massage techniques, including classical massage, therapeutic massage, and soft tissue manipulation. They are complemented with business and communication courses to assist in the administrative side of working in a successful massage therapy career.
Dental Assisting (Diploma)
Preparing graduates to seek entry-level employment as a dental assistant, the dental assisting program at Harris School of Business is a Diploma course of study. In addition to learning about chair-side assistance, students will study radiography, dental materials, exam procedures, instrument prep and dental x-rays. Balancing out this curriculum, graduates will also be equipped with the skills needed in dental lab and front-office procedures.
Faculty & Facilities
Faculty members are chosen for their degree of professionalism. They are expected to have proven experience in their respective fields as well as the ability to reach students on a personal level. To complement their teaching style, all facilities are modern and well-equipped.
Training is focused on hands-on work as much as possible to increase the possibility of post-graduation employment. Considered a form of “Career Focused Education,” the intent is less on academics and more on vocational training.
Accreditation
Accreditation for the school can be found from the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools. This gives them the authority to bestow certificates (diplomas) of completion for each of their programs.
Financial Aid
Financial aid is available depending on student need and eligibility. After prospective students apply for admission to Harris School, they are expected to meet with the financial aid department to fill out the necessary forms for loans and grants through the federal government. Additional assistance for in-house financial plans and/or private loans is also provided at this time.
