About Pioneer Pacific College
The school first opened in 1981 under the name of Skilltronics, Inc. Originating in Corvallis, Oregon, the primary intention was to provide training solely in the electronics industry, which was booming at the time. It has undergone several different name changes and relocations since then, and it got its current name in 1989 when it came under the management of Pacific Education Corporation. Although technology remains a large portion of what the school offers, it has also expanded to include the highest-demand industries currently on the market.
Pioneer Pacific College's mission is to be "uncompromisingly dedicated to helping people improve their lives through high-quality, college-level, career education." As a result, almost all courses are heavily employment-focused.
In addition to the health care programs, this campus also offers diplomas and degrees in the fields of Business, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Information Technology, and Paralegal. Most of these programs start every ten weeks, so students don't have to wait for quarters or semesters to get started on their training.
Medical Claims and Billing Specialist - Diploma
Preparing graduates for entry-level employment in the fields of health care claims processing, medical insurance, or physician's office coding, the Medical Claims and Billing Specialist program at Pioneer Pacific College is available as a Diploma course of study.
In addition to a solid foundation in patient medical records, students will also learn about insurance terms and conditions, patient obligations, treatment costs, and insurance company obligation. This program includes training in computer applications, as well as medical administration and accounting.
Health Care Administration - Associate of Applied Science and Bachelor of Science
Available as an Associate of Applied Science or Bachelor of Science degree program, the Health Care Administration curriculum at Pioneer Pacific College is designed to prepare graduates for entry-level management positions in the health care industry.
In addition to learning about the fundamentals of medical administration, students will also explore human resources, computer applications, and organizational management. Graduates will also be well-versed in the area of management as it relates to the health care industry. At the Bachelor-degree level, graduates will receive training that will prepare them for entry and mid-level health care industry management positions.
Medical Assistant - Diploma and Associate of Applied Science
Available in Diploma and Associate of Applied Science Degree formats, the Medical Assistant program at Pioneer Pacific College is designed to prepare graduates for entry-level employment as a medical assistant. Students may also seek employment as a medical receptionist, health plan coordinator, or medical insurance customer service representative. In addition to classroom and lecture environments, students will also learn in a hands-on laboratory.
Both programs include 180 hours of training in a supervised externship, giving students vital hands-on training in a supportive real-world environment. Additionally, both programs include training in the clinical skills needed in order to become a successful member of a health care team. At the Associate of Applied Science level, an additional emphasis is placed on computer skills and general business skills, allowing graduates to pursue employment as an insurance claims analyst, supervisory medical office assistant, unit secretary, or office manager.
Medical Assisting with Limited X-Ray - Diploma and Associate of Applied Science
Available in a Diploma or Associate of Applied Science format, the Medical Assisting with Limited X-Ray program at Pioneer Pacific College is designed to provide students with an introduction the field of limited radiography. This includes coursework in x-rays involving the upper and lower extremities, chest, spine, head and feet.
Training is conducted in an on-campus x-ray lab, and classwork also includes instruction in film assessment, positioning techniques, and safety procedures. While both programs include a 180-hour externship in a supervised medical environment, the AAS program also provides an additional level of training on computers. This allows graduates of the Associate of Applied Science in Medical Assisting with Limited X-Ray to seek employment as a supervisory medical office assistant, unit secretary, insurance claims analyst, or administrative office manager.
Massage Therapy - Diploma
Preparing graduates for entry-level positions in corporate, spa, or chiropractic settings, the Diploma of Massage Therapy program at Pioneer Pacific College is a great way to begin your career as a licensed massage therapist. Coursework is hands-on, and includes training in efficient body mechanics, ethical business practices, sound self-care practices, and the planning, organization, and implementation of massage sessions. Training is a blend of lab, classroom, and clinic training, where students can provide massages to the general public in a supervised and supportive educational environment.
Facilities
Industry-standard technologies and modern equipment are two key components of all the school's facilities. Computers and hands-on clinicals are also important, especially in the Practical Nursing program, which complies with state standards for on-site educational hours with a laboratory that simulates the equipment used and records department set-up of hospitals and other health care facilities.
Faculty
Class sizes at Pioneer Pacific are kept small on purpose. The goal is to create an intimate learning environment that maximizes the amount of interaction between faculty members, administrators, and students. The curriculum of each program also undergoes regular changes in order to match what the instructors teach to what is currently needed in the workplace.
Financial Aid
Financial aid is available in a variety of formats. Once students have been accepted to their program of choice, they get access to a financial aid officer, who works directly with students to discover funding sources. These almost always come from federal and state aid through the FAFSA program. Other options include private student loans or payment plans through the school.
Accreditation
The school first got its accreditation through the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools in 1995. It is eligible through the Accrediting Council to bestow certificates, diplomas and occupational associate degrees.
